Chinese Ministry of Health To Assess GM Food
News: May, 2002
China's Ministry of Health says that GM food "shall not be produced or imported without the review and approval of the Ministry of Health."
This means that GMO producers must be on an approved list in order for their products to be sold in China. It is anticipated that applications
for approval might take up six months to review. The Ministry of Agriculture and the Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and
Quarantine have introduced regulations that require certification of imports.
